About Me - Jo Skelker

I earned my degree in Musicology from the University of Cambridge, and for several years I performed in orchestras, including with the Israel Camerata and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.

I first trained as a piano tuner and technician at the UK's Piano Technology School. I then successfully passed the Piano Technicians Guild’s comprehensive exams in tuning, regulation, and repairs, and earned the Registered Piano Technician (RPT) certification, making me one of just a handful of people in Europe to do so.

I live in Budapest with my Hungarian wife, where we are raising our two children.

Where I Work

I work anywhere in Budapest and the surrounding area.

I am very happy to travel outside of Budapest. If I am able to visit two or three pianos on the same day, I will not charge any additional travel fees. If you do not live in Budapest but are interested in a tuning, please be in touch so that I can try to schedule a visit to your area.

If you’re unsure, just call or email me and we’ll see what we can arrange.

Budapest Piano Tuner

My basic call-out fee is 25,000 HUF*, which includes a full tuning of your piano.

If the piano is more than 2 Hz out of tune, it will need what’s called a pitch raise, and the price starts from 35,000 HUF. The final cost depends on how far out of tune it is. In some cases, very out-of-tune instruments can’t be brought back to concert pitch in a single visit. If a second visit is needed, it’s usually charged at the basic rate (25,000 HUF).

I charge 15,000 HUF per hour for repair work (charged pro rata, with a minimum of 20 minutes), plus the cost of any necessary parts.

*Prices are VAT-free for private individuals. A 27% VAT charge applies to organizations, companies, and institutions.
